My Key Issues

For our district to succeed we need what I call the Key 3 — Strong Readers, Strong Teachers, and Strong Futures.

Literacy First

- Ensure every student becomes a confident, capable reader - Address gaps: many students are below state standards in reading and comprehension - Implement literacy screenings and targeted interventions at all grade levels - Use active literacy task forces to identify priority areas for support - Create a culture of reading through school-wide read-ins, curriculum units, student storytelling, and reading competitions - Challenge students with high expectations while providing the support they need

Expanding the Educator Pipeline

- Recruit new educators and create conditions that encourage them to stay - Build partnerships with local and national universities to develop a pipeline of talent - Highlight the successes and stories of teachers to showcase why Peoria schools are a great place to work - Gather feedback from teachers and use it as data to improve working conditions - Invest in retention strategies to reduce turnover and empower educators to help every student thrive

Pathways Beyond Graduation

- Ensure every student graduates with a clear plan for life after high school - Expand pathways for college, trade, and career readiness that align with students’ interests and skills - Strengthen programs like career pathways, dual language, and multicultural initiatives - Build stronger partnerships with Bradley University, Illinois Central College, and other regional universities - Align opportunities with postsecondary institutions and real-world skills - Provide guidance, mentorship, and hands-on experiences to prepare students for success
